A few words from Vita Polyakova:
Initially, I had no direct connection to Chernobyl. The only thing was that my uncle Nikolai was one in 3823 bio-robots cleaning the roof of Unit 3 of ChNPP from highly radioactive debris and pieces of graphite rods in summer 1986.
One day, being a student of foreign languages high school, I received a proposal from my friends who had already been working in the Zone for almost 20 years: "Would you like to work in Chernobyl? You know, it seems that more and more people from all over the globe come and visit the Zone every year.”
To be honest, I got shocked by such employment opportunity. Later on, I got seriously interested, weighted potential risks, read books on radiology. Finally, my decision was to undertake this challenge. Moreover, work in the Exclusion Zone seemed exotic and guaranteed everyday foreign language practice.
As a result, I first of all got good technical foundation. But what I like most about our trips to the Zone is small discoveries: you can stumble on radioactive hotspots emitting thousands beta-decays, see white-tailed eagles along with wild Przhevalski horses grazing in the field, find soviet tanks on the sideways, admire authentic Polissya embroidered towels and house utensils, have a breathtaking view of the Pripyat river, and visit a ghost town full of secrets.
Just as appetite comes when eating, my personal relations with the Zone are becoming richer. I get energized from contact with congenial people.
So, welcome to the wild Exclusion zone! I am absolutely sure, that on our trips you will get to know its surprisingly multifaceted nature.
